No entry to Dhaka Cantonment sans pass from Jan 1

None will be allowed to enter Dhaka Cantonment without pass from January 1, according to Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR) directorate. The decision is taken to ensure security inside the cantonment, said ISPR Director Lt Col Mohammad Rashidul Hasan. A notice board with seven rules in this regard was put up outside Jahangir Gate on Thursday. It says the cantonment residents (Matikata-Zia Colony-MP Checkpost and Rajanigandha Supermarket-Sainik Club MP Checkpost) must collect their passes from Dhaka Cantonment Board by December 31. The rules, however, will not be applicable to those who travel through the cantonment by bus. People who work in houses located inside the cantonment (caretaker, guard, driver and domestic worker) and relatives of the cantonment residents have to apply for temporary resident passes. — bdnews24.com

Clash over harvest in Bagerhat leaves two people dead

Two people were killed and 10 others injured in a fierce clash between two groups of villagers over harvesting paddy from a disputed cropland at Sonakhali village in Morelganj upazila under Bagerhat on Friday. The deceased were identified as Polash Sheikh, 40, son of Shahajahan Sheikh of Ambari village, and Ibrahim Sheikh, 45, son of Torab Ali Sheikh of Patabari village of the upazila. They also detained six people for interrogation. — UNB

Two war vessels join Coast Guard

Two war vessels - CGS Mansoor Ali and CGS Kamruzzaman - joined Mongla Coast Guard fleet on Friday afternoon. The Italy-made vessels reached the jetty of Mongla Port in Bagerhat at 2:30 pm, said a press release. With the addition of these two vessels, now the number of vessels in Mongla is seven. The addition of new vessels will help Coast Guard maintain round-the-clock maritime security in Bangladesh waters, said the release. — UNB
