1st invasive cardiac surgery at city govt hospital

A minimally invasive cardiac surgery was conducted on Sunday at the National Institute of Cardiovascular Diseases (NICVD), the first of its kind at any government hospital. A team of 10 doctors headed by Dr Ashraful Hoque Siam conducted the operation of a 12-year-old girl at the NICVD. "We carried out the surgery of Nupur with full anesthesia which took two and a half hours," Dr Siam, said adding that the cost of the operation was only Taka 5,000. — BSS

Jamalpur DC made OSD

Jamalpur's Deputy Commissioner Ahmed Kabir was made an officer on special duty on Sunday, days after a leaked video showed him in a compromising situation with a female colleague. In a notification, the Public Administration Ministry said the order will be effective immediately. Officer on special duty (OSD) is a post that rarely offers opportunity for work. Kabir has been replaced by Mohammad Enamul Haque, who was serving as the private secretary to the planning minister.
