Three UPDF activists die in 'shootout' with army

Three activists of the Prasit Bikash Khisha-led United People's Democratic Front (UPDF) were killed in a "shootout" with the army in Khagrachhari, according to the Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR) Directorate. The gunfight broke out between the UPDF members and an army patrol unit in the district's Dighinala, the ISPR said on its website on Sunday. Three bodies were recovered from the town's Borodam area and brought to the police station, said Dighinala Police OC Uttam Kumar Deb. But police could not identify the bodies.— bdnews24.com

Fire destroys Korean EPZ house in Ctg

A fire destroyed a bamboo bungalow at the Korean Export Processing Zone (EPZ), in Chattogram. The flames broke out in the eye-catching cabin, built to beautify the Korean EPZ, around 11.00pm on Sunday. An electrical short circuit sparked the fire. Four units of the fire service's Anwara and Lamar Bazar stations arrived on the spot at 12:45am and doused the flames. — bdnews24.com

BB re-fixes prices of commemorative gold coins

Bangladesh Bank (BB) has re-fixed the prices of commemorative gold coins for International Mother Language Day. From now, a 22-carat gold commemorative coin, each weighing 10-gram, will cost Taka 50,000 instead of Taka 45,000 while two coins will cost Taka 1,00,000 instead of Taka 90,000, said a central bank press release on Monday. The BB increased the prices of such coins considering the rise of gold prices. — BSS
