AL reception to PM on her return today
Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina will return home this (Saturday) morning from a three-week visit to the United States and the United Kingdom. Awami League will accord a mass reception to the Prime Minister and party president on her return. The leaders and workers of the ruling party and its associate bodies will greet their leader standing on both sides of roads from the airport to Ganobhaban. — UNB
Sushma due on October 23
Bangladesh and India will hold the next Joint Consultative Commission (JCC) meeting in the fourth week of October to review the entire bilateral relations and take forward the decisions taken so far. Foreign Minister AH Mahmood Ali and Indian External Affairs Minister Sushma Swaraj will lead their respective sides at the meeting which is likely to be held on October 23. Sushma Swaraj is scheduled to arrive in Dhaka on October 23, a diplomatic source said Friday. The meeting will coordinate, oversee and follow up implementation of initiatives as well as explore new avenues for cooperation. Foreign Secretary M Shahidul Haque met his Indian counterpart S Jaishankar on Thursday in New Delhi discussing the visit of the Indian External Affairs Minister apart from other bilateral matters. — UNB
Train accidents kill three in city
Three people were killed in as many train incidents in the capital's Mohakhali, Kamalapur and Kuril Biswaroad areas on Friday and Thursday. Officer-in-Charge (OC) of the Government Railway Police (GRP), Dhaka, Mohammad Yasin Faruk said one of the deceased was identified as Md Farid Mia, 41, while identities of two others were yet to be known. Farid Mia, who received serious injuries on Thursday afternoon at Kuril Biswaroad, succumbed to his injuries at Kurmitola General Hospital at night. — BSS
