Omicron remains a concern

Leader of the country's apex trade body Md Jashim Uddin sees spread of new Covid-19 variant Omicron, generation of more employment and enhancement of capacity in the post-LDC era, among others, as the key challenges for the year 2022.

Also there is a need for widening the government tax net and pursuing policy reforms for the country's further economic uplift, said President of the Federation of Bangladesh Chambers of Commerce and Industry (FBCCI).

"Development of Capacity and enhancement of our negotiations skills are urgently necessary to face the challenges ahead, especially after the country's graduation from least developed country (LDC)," he said.

Already, the supply channel has been disrupted following the enhancement of shipping charges, he mentioned.

The top business leader made the observations when asked about the expectations of country's businesses expect in New Year 2022 and what are the challenges they see in the coming monts.
