Pray for mother: Tarique

Tarique Rahman, acting chairperson of Bangladesh Nationalist Party (BNP) on Wednesday appealed to all to pray for his mother and former prime minister of Bangladesh Begum Khaleda Zia.

While attending the Namaz-e-Janaza of the party chairperson at the South Plaza of the Jatiya Sangsad, Tarique Rahman said: "Please pray for my mother so that Allah grant her Jannat."

Introducing himself as the eldest son of Khaleda Zia, he also requested anyone having lent money to his mother to contact him.

Mr. Tarique Rahman further said: "If anyone was hurt by her behaviour while she was alive, I apologise on behalf of the deceased (Begum Zia)."

The Janaza prayer for Begum Khaleda Zia was held at 3:02 pm, which witnessed an unprecedented turnout of people from all walks of life.

After the Janazah prayer, BNP acting chairman Tarique Rahman laid her mother Begum Zia to her eternal rest in the grave in his own hands at Zia Udyan in the capital.

According to eyewitnesses, it was the largest-ever funeral gathering in the history of Bangladesh.

Millions of people from all strata gathered to pay their respects and pray for the eternal peace her departed soul
