The dengue situation continued to worsen with 5,637 cases, the highest ever in a month, recorded until Monday in July across the country.
As many as 475 new patients were admitted to various hospitals in the last 24 hours until 9:00 am on Tuesday.
However, the number of deaths has been put at five.
The Health Emergency Operation Centre and Control Room under the Directorate General of Health Services (DGHS) made the disclosures.
But the number of deaths could be higher as many cases have remained unreported.
The authorities of two city corporations in Dhaka have recently drawn a lot of flak from the public for their ineffective action to control mosquito and dengue.
Meanwhile, the High Court has summoned chief health officers of the corporations to inform the court of the steps taken to check dengue and chikungunya outbreaks.
However, Dhaka South City Corporation mayor Sayeed Khokon has vowed to take action against owners of under-construction buildings if any breeding ground for Aedes mosquitoes is found there.
He said stagnant water in under-construction buildings facilitates growth of Aedes larvae.
City corporation workers are already visiting houses in 57 wards and destroying Aedes larvae if found.
On the other hand, Dhaka North City Corporation opened a call centre on Wednesday to give advice on dengue and chikungunya.
A patient can dial 01932-665544 to take advice for 24 hours.
The World Health Organisation representatives after their recent meeting with Mr Khokon told the media that dengue situation was alarming in Bangladesh.
But this is not out of control, they said.
