Lailatul Qadr, also known as Shab-e-Qadr, the holiest and most revered night for Muslims, was observed across the country on Monday night with solemnity and deep religious devotion.
Devotees spent the night in prayer, seeking divine blessings for the peace and progress of the country as well as the welfare of the global Muslim Ummah.
According to the Holy Quran, Lailatul Qadr holds immense significance, being superior to a thousand nights. It was on this sacred night that the Quran was first revealed to Prophet Hazrat Muhammad (pbuh), guiding humanity towards both worldly and eternal salvation.
Muslims traditionally commemorate the night by performing special prayers, reciting verses from the Quran, holding milad mahfils, engaging in zikr, and observing other religious rituals at mosques and at home.
Many also visit graveyards to offer prayers for the departed souls of their loved ones, seeking Allah's mercy and blessings.
Bangladesh Betar, Bangladesh Television, and private television channels aired programmes reflecting on the sanctity of the night and its guidance for humanity.
Prime Minister Tarique Rahman extended heartfelt greetings to the people of Bangladesh and Muslims worldwide on the occasion, report agencies.
In a message issued on Sunday, he described Lailatul Qadr as a glorious and blessed night, noting that it offers mercy, forgiveness, and well-being to humanity.
He emphasised that the night is an exceptional opportunity for believers to draw closer to Almighty Allah through prayers, repentance, and supplication.
Highlighting the broader significance of Ramadan, the prime minister said the holy month encourages restraint, self-purification, tolerance, and the awakening of human values.
The teachings of Lailatul Qadr, he noted, inspire individuals to promote peace, justice, and welfare in personal, social, and national life.
Tarique Rahman urged people to increase their devotion and dedicate themselves to the service of humanity, recognising the profound spiritual importance of the night.
He prayed that Allah's infinite mercy and blessings be bestowed upon all, and that the nation be guided towards progress, peace, harmony, and prosperity.
He expressed hope that the sanctity of Lailatul Qadr would bring peace, well-being, and spiritual upliftment to everyone.
