Students of Bangladesh University of Engineering and Technology (BUET) on Tuesday announced that they would boycott all academic activities until the university authorities expel the killers of Abrar permanently.

They decided to suspend their protest programme against the killing of BUET student Abrar Fahad.

They also declared that they would take part in a mass oath activity-along with their teachers-- on their campus today (Wednesday) to stamp out criminal activities on the campus.

A protester at the conference made the announcements a press briefing at 5:30 pm on Tuesday in front of BUET Shaheed Minar of the campus.

He thanked the Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina for the direction of quick disposal of Abrar's murder case.

He said, "We are satisfied with the administration, as it has already arrested and placed alleged criminals on remand. We also thank our vice-chancellor (VC) and the authorities for taking effective steps about our demands."

After six days of protests seeking justice for the murder of their fellow student Abrar Fahad, the agitating students of BUET on Saturday postponed their demonstration for two days for the university's admission tests held on Monday (October 14).

Their demands included ensuring the highest punishment for the killers, permanent expulsion of the identified killers from the BUET, providing expenditure for conducting the case to the victim's family by the BUET administration, fast conducting of the case under Speedy Trial Tribunal, publishing copy of the charge- sheet officially as soon as possible and banning student politics in the campus.

BUET authorities on Friday banned political activities on the campus. It also suspended 19 Bangladesh Chhatra League (BCL) leaders and activists from the university in connection with Abrar murder.

Abrar Fahad, a second-year student of Electrical and Electronics Engineering (EEE), was beaten to death allegedly by some BCL leaders at the university's Sher-e-Bangla Hall sometime between 8:30 pm Sunday (October 06) and 2:30 am Monday (October 07).
