CHATTOGRAM, May 5: Chattogram Hill Tracts Bangalee Chhatra Parishad has called a three-day general strike in three hill districts from today (Sunday) protesting the killing of microbus driver Sajib Hossain.

General Secretary of the organisation Sahadat Faraji Sakib announced it in a press release issued from Khagrachhari on Saturday.

The organisation also demanded immediate release of three Bangalee youths allegedly abducted by the miscreants from Mohalchari of the hill district.

Sakib said Salauddin (28), Moharam Ali (27) and Bahar Meah (27) were abducted by a group of miscreants on April 16 last.

The shutdown programmes include hoisting of black flags and protest rallies in the three hill districts. The organisation demanded arrest of those responsible for the killing of Sajib Hossain.

Four leaders of UPDF (United People's Democratic Front) including president of

UPDF (Democratic) Tapan Jyoti Chakma were killed in a brushfire on their way to the funeral of Shaktimaan Chakma, vice president of Parbatya Chattogram Jana Sanghati Samity (MN Larma) and upazila chairman of Naniarchar, in Rangamati on Friday.

The four victims were Sujan Chakma, Kanak Chakma, Setu Lal Chakma (local leaders of UPDF) and Sajib Hossain, driver of the microbus that was carrying them to the funeral.

Shaktimaan Chakma, a senior tribal leader of the hill people, was shot dead at Naniarchar earlier on Thursday morning. No case was yet filed over the murder of Shaktiman Chakma and four others in Rangamati. Nobody filed a case over the two murder incidents, said Md Abdul Latif, officer-in-charge of Naniarchar Police Station on Saturday.

"We spoke to the victims' families and asked them to file a case. They agreed but later chose to reconsider it."

"If they do not file a case by today, police will contact higher authorities and then file a case themselves."

The police official said the area was still calm despite the five murders in two days.

A total of 17 tribal people were killed in two hill districts in last five months.
