The Chapainawabganj-bound Bonolota Express carrying 1,200 passengers narrowly escaped an accident on Sunday, as the locomotive master managed to stop 40 meter before a damaged track near Dhirashram Railway Station in Gazipur.
Officials said a section of the dual-gauge railway track at Chhotodewra was displaced after sleeper locks were broken threatening the train movement.
As Bangladesh Railway's employees noticed the damage at around 2:15 pm, they immediately hoisted a red flag when the Bonolota Express was heading towards the place from Dhaka.
The train left the spot around 4:20 pm after the engineering department of the BR fixed the issue. During the period, train bound for Mymensingh, Jamalpur, Rajshahi, Dinajpur and Rangpur ran using another line.
Officials said the cause of the damage could be known after investigation.
