WASHINGTON, Nov 04 (agencies): The 2024 United States elections are scheduled to be held today to decide the 47th US president.
Democratic candidate Kamala Harris and her Republican rival Donald Trump were on a tour of swing states aiming to sway undecided voters on Monday.
On election eve, the presidential race is deadlocked. The polls are exceptionally close across the country and in all the swing states - Pennsylvania, Michigan, Wisconsin in the industrial midwest; Nevada and Arizona in the west; and Georgia and North Carolina in the south.
The final New York Times/Siena poll shows Democratic Vice President Kamala Harris leading by a very small margin or tied with Republican former President Donald Trump in all the swing states. The exception is Arizona, where Trump leads by a few percentage points.
While there is no clear favourite to win, there are several critical factors that will driving voters' decisions on Election Day. This is what to watch.
A presidential campaign that has careened through a felony trial, an incumbent president being pushed off the ticket, and multiple assassination attempts came down to a final push across a handful of states on the eve of Election Day.
Kamala Harris spent all of Monday in Pennsylvania, whose 19 electoral votes offer the largest prize among the states expected to determine the Electoral College outcome. The vice president and Democratic nominee visited working-class areas including Allentown and ended with a late-night Philadelphia rally that included Lady Gaga and Oprah Winfrey.
Donald Trump planned four rallies in three states, beginning in Raleigh, North Carolina, and stopping twice in Pennsylvania with events in Reading and Pittsburgh. The Republican nominee and former president ended his campaign the way he ended the first two, with a late Monday night event in Grand Rapids, Michigan.
In addition to election for US president, all 435 seats in the United States House of Representatives and 34 of the 100 seats in the United States Senate will be contested to determine the membership of the 119th United States Congress.
Thirteen state and territorial governorships and numerous other state and local elections will also be contested.
About 77 million Americans already have voted early, but Harris and Trump are pushing to turn out many millions more supporters on Tuesday. Either result on Election Day will yield a historic outcome.
