Veteran journalist Rahman Jahangir passes away

Veteran journalist Rahman Jahangir was laid to rest at his village home Mashundha in Matlab upazila of Chandpur district on Tuesday.

He breathed his last at Lab Aid Hospital in Dhaka city on Monday, his family sources said. Until his death, he served The Financial Express as an Editorial Consultant.

He began his career in journalism in the now-defunct People in 1972.

Afterwards, he worked in the Bangladesh Observer, The Daily Star, The Telegraph, The Independent, The News Today in various capacities. He was also associated with some foreign media as well.

Born on July 04, 1950 in the capital, he did his honours and masters in economics from Dhaka University.

He was a permanent member of the Jatiya Press Club, Dhaka. Jatiya Press Club president Muhammad Shafiqur Rahman and general secretary Farida Yasmin expressed deep shock at his death.

The senior journalist's first namaz-e-janaza was held at the Jatiya Press Club at 1:30pm and the second one was held at a moqsue near his Kalabagan residence after Asr prayers.

Mr Jahangir left behind his wife, three children, and a host of relatives and admirers to mourn his death.
