Virus cases surge, deaths decrease

The number of people diagnosed with novel coronavirus increased on Wednesday, although the number of casualties from the disease, Covid-19, declined.

According to the Directorate General of Health Services (DGHS), 1,684 more people tested positive for Covid-19 in the past 24 hours after testing 14,411 samples.

A total of 14,169 samples were collected during the reporting period, said the DGHS press release.

On the other hand, 16 more people have died from Covid-19 in the past 24 hours reporting time until Wednesday.

A total of 1,537 people were diagnosed with Covid-19 during the previous day's (Tuesday) reporting time and 22 people died from the virus.

With Wednesday's deaths (13 males and 03 females), total fatalities from the infectious disease reached 5,593 since the virus was detected here this March.

The rate of fatalities remained almost static at 1.46 per cent while the rate of recovery was recorded at 77.67 per cent, the DGHS release mentioned.

However, a total of 1,576 people recovered from Covid-19 in the past 24 hours, it mentioned.

According to the release, the rate of detection was 11.69 per cent as per the samples tested in the past 24 hours.

According to the official data, a total of 3,82,959 have so far been infected with Covid-19 while 2,97,449 of them recovered from the deadly disease.
