The COVID-19 pandemic has turned too severe in 40 districts, where nearly 66 per cent of the total infections were reported, officials and physicians have said.
In terms of fatalities, these areas have accounted for nearly 80 per cent of the deaths, and such unpleasant statistics have turned them into hotspots or red zone, according to them.
According to the healthcare experts, hotspot or red zone classification draws attention to districts/cities, reporting large numbers of cases or high growth rate.
DGHS director (MIS) Habibur Rahman said they consider an area with more than 1,000 infections as red zone or hotspot. With that estimation, 40 districts have already crossed the danger level.
"Nearly 66 per cent of the infections are concentrated in these hotspots. The most dangerous part is that some six other districts are also close to the mark," he added.
With 1,973 more people tested positive in the last 24 hours, ending on Sunday noon, the tally of confirmed cases rose to 294,598.
On the other hand, death toll reached 3,941 with 34 more patients succumbed during the period, according to the state-run Directorate General of Health Services (DGHS).
Of the total infections, 193,937 were reported in the 40 districts. The districts were - Dhaka, Chattogram, Cumilla, Narayanganj, Bogura, Faridpur, Khulna, Sylhet, Gazipur, Noakhali, Cox's Bazar, Munshiganj, Mymensingh, Barishal, Jessore, Dinajpur, Kushtia, Kishoreganj, Rajbari, Tangail, Gopalganj, B'baria, Rangpur, Chandpur, Narsingdi, Sunamganj, Sirajganj, Laxmipur, Feni, Hobiganj, Jhenidah, Shariatpur, Moulvibazar, Madaripur, Jamalpur, Patuakhali, Naogaon, Chuadanga, Narail and Manikganj.
Besides, infections keep spreading fast in six other districts, where the number of confirmed cases is moving near to the 1,000-mark (red zone).
On Sunday's health bulletin on coronavirus, the DGHS said a total of 10,801 samples were tested across the country since Saturday noon.
Of the tests, some 1,973 samples were found COVID-19 positive along with 34 more deaths recorded across the country during the period, it mentioned.
"With these numbers, the overall tally of confirmed cases and deaths rose to 294,598 and 3,941 respectively," added the bulletin, signed by DGHS additional director general Dr Nasima Sultana.
Of the total deaths, 48.19 per cent of the fatalities was recorded in Dhaka division, followed by Chattogram (22.15 per cent), Khulna (8.02 per cent), Rajshahi (6.77 per cent), Sylhet (4.67 per cent), Rangpur (4.19 per cent), Barishal (3.91 per cent), and Mymensingh (2.11 per cent).
At the same time, the DGHS data also mentioned that 3,534 patients recovered, taking the entire tally of recovery to 179,091. The recovery rate rose to 60.79 per cent.
Globally, over 23.4 million people have been infected by the novel coronavirus, and 809,098 have died until Sunday 6:40 pm, according to Worldometer info.
