Youths want to build a new civilisation, says CA

This year's Amar Ekushey has come with a new significance in the changed circumstances of Bangladesh, Chief Adviser Muhammad Yunus has said, bdnews24.com.

Extending his congratulations to the recipients at the Ekushey Padak 2025 award ceremony at Dhaka's Osmani Memorial Auditorium on Thursday morning, he said: "The nation is especially grateful for your contribution. You are the guiding lights of the nation. Inspired by your contributions, the nation will continue to establish itself in a better position in the assembly of the global nations, with firm belief."

Referring to the student-led civil uprising in his speech, the chief adviser said: "We have received a new Bangladesh through the mass uprising on Aug 5 last year. With this victory, we have an opportunity to build The Ekushey Padak was handed over to 15 recipients in recognition of their contributions in different fields. Among those awarded posthumously are poet Helal Hafiz, writer Shahidul Zahir, journalist Mahfuz Ullah, film director Azizur Rahman, musician Ustad Nirod Baran Barua, and Daily Purbokone founder Mohammad Yusuf Chowdhury.

The Bangladesh women's football team have also been honoured for its contributions to sports.

This year's list also includes singer Ferdous Ara, writer Maidul Hasan, journalist Mahmudur Rahman, painter Rokeya Sultana, translator Niaz Zaman, Avro font creator Mehdi Hasan Khan and his team, and photographers Nasir Ali Mamun and Shahidul Alam.
