101 consumers to get cash prize every month

FE Report | December 08, 2020 00:00:00

Consumers will get cash prize on invoices by purchasing goods from the shops or outlets having Electronic Fiscal Devices (EFDs).

Every month some 101 consumers will get the opportunity through lottery.

The National Board of Revenue (NBR) on Monday issued a policy with a gazette notification in this regard.

The first prize winner will get Tk0.1 million in cash while the second prize winner Tk 50,000, according to the policy.

Five consumers will share the fourth price worth Tk 25,000 each while 94 consumers will get the fifth price worth Tk 10,000 each.

Earlier, NBR chairman Abu Hena Md Rahmatul Muneem vowed to encourage the consumers to obtain EFD-generated invoices through lottery.

As per the policy, the invoices generated from the EFD Management System (EFDMS) would be considered as coupons for the lottery.

Lottery on the invoices of the previous month will be held on the fifth day of a month.

The NBR will announce the numbers of winners within three working days of holding the lottery.

The EFD invoice holders will be eligible to receive the prizes.

Winners will have to apply to any field level VAT offices in a prescribed format claiming the prize within the month of lottery.

All prizes will be given by cheque and the first three prizes will be handed over to the winners from the revenue board while the fourth prize will be distributed instantly from the field offices.

In August 2018, the VAT wing of the board made EFD or point of sales mandatory for 24 types of businesses.

The NBR has installed EFDs at 1,000 shops in Dhaka and Chattogram.

In the second phase, a total of 0.1 million EFDs will be installed across the country.

The revenue board has already approved the purchase of another 0.1 million EFD sat a cost of Tk 3.17 billion from a consortium of China-based SZZT Electronics and local Synesis IT.
