12kg LPG price drops by Tk 91

FE REPORT | August 04, 2025 00:00:00

The Bangladesh Energy Regulatory Commission (BERC) has reduced the retail price of a 12-kg cylinder of Liquefied Petroleum Gas (LPG) by Tk 91, bringing it down to Tk 1,273 for August -- a move that reflects the global downward trend in energy prices.

Alongside, the pump price of auto-gas -- LPG used in vehicles -- has been cut by Tk 4.18 per litre to Tk 58.28.

On Sunday, at a press briefing at the commission's office in Dhaka, BERC Chairman Md Jalal Ahmed said, "The new rate came into effect this evening [Sunday]."

This marks the fourth consecutive monthly reduction in LPG prices since May, driven by declining international prices of oil and gas, which had previously surged due to the Iran-Israel conflict.

The BERC adjusts local LPG prices based on the Saudi Aramco Contract Price (CP) -- the benchmark for the international market -- and takes into account fluctuations in foreign exchange rates and changes in applicable taxes such as VAT.

For August, the CP stood at US$520 per tonne for propane and $490 per tonne for butane. BERC calculated a blended price of $500.50 per tonne using a 35:65 ratio of propane to butane.
