150 BD migrants from Libya, 26 from UAE repatriated

A total of 150 Bangladeshi migrants were repatriated from Libya, and 26 from the UAE on Friday.

In Libya they had been detained at the Gunfuda detention center. They were brought back with the assistance of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, the Bangladesh Embassy in Tripoli, and the International Organization for Migration (IOM).

Officials welcomed the returnees at the Hazrat Shahjalal International Airport in Dhaka.

Each person has been provided with Tk 6,000 in financial support, food, temporary accommodation, and medical treatment based on their needs.

This month, a total of 22 Bangladeshis from Tunisia and 154 from the Libyan detention center in Tripoli have been repatriated to the country.

Meanwhile, more 26 Bangladeshis who were imprisoned in the UAE for supporting the anti-discrimination student movement also returned on the same day.

The first group of 14 workers was repatriated the previous Saturday.

On September 3, Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan, the president of the UAE, granted a pardon to all 57 Bangladeshis who had been convicted by the Federal Court of the Gulf nation.

On July 19, UAE law enforcement arrested 57 Bangladeshi workers for participating in a protest supporting the anti-quota movement. They were sentenced to various prison terms.
