189 new patients hospitalised as Dengue on the decline

FE REPORT | September 25, 2021 00:00:00

The number of dengue cases in the country has declined slightly as 189 new patients were admitted to hospitals in the past 24 hours ending Friday morning.

With this, the country has logged 16,894 dengue cases so far this year, said a regular bulletin of the Directorate General of Health Services (DGHS) yesterday.

The country registered 254 cases on Thursday and 275 on Monday, according to the bulletin.

It said among the new patients, 164 were hospitalised within Dhaka city and the rest in other regions.

More than 40 per cent of the new dengue patients were aged below 20 years.

Division wise, Dhaka, excluding the capital city, reported eight cases on Friday, Chattogram and Mymensingh five cases each, Khulna six and Rajshahi one.

Some 1,048 people diagnosed with dengue were receiving treatment in the country as of Friday morning. Among them, 827 patients were receiving treatment at different hospitals in the capital while the remaining 221 were listed outside Dhaka.

Till yesterday, the month of September registered 6,538 dengue cases, August 7,698 and July reported 2,286 cases.

A total of 15,787 dengue patients have left the caregivers after receiving treatment in different healthcare facilities till yesterday. The mosquito-borne disease claimed 59 lives so far this year.

However, experts said that the total number of the dengue-infected people in Bangladesh is much higher than the official data provided by the DGHS as it collects data from some selected healthcare facilities, not from all caregivers across the country.
