29 new cases, no death in BD

Bangladesh registered 29 cases of COVID-19 in a day on Friday, taking the overall tally of infections to 1,953,592, report agencies.

But no new fatalities were registered in the 24-hour count, keeping the death toll from the disease unchanged at 29,131, according to the latest government data released on Friday.

As many as 4,829 samples were tested across the country, for a positivity rate of 0.60 per cent.

Among the eight divisions, Dhaka recorded the highest number of cases, with 23 infections.

Another 195 people recovered from the illness nationwide, bringing the total number of recoveries to 1,903,580.

The latest figures put the recovery rate at 97.44 percent and the mortality rate at 1.49 percent.

Globally, the overall number of Covid cases has now crossed 534 million amid a rise in new infections in parts of the world.

According to the latest global data, the total case count mounted to 534,122,368 while the death toll from the virus reached 6,317,436 on Friday morning.

The US has recorded 86,271,283 cases so far and 1,032,862 people have died from the virus in the country, the data shows.

India's Covid-19 tally rose to 43,169,599 on Thursday while 524,641 people have died from the virus, as per the data.
