SIRAJGANJ, Mar 1 (bdnews24.com): Police have released three students on bond after imposing a fine on them for allegedly vandalising a hotel and a grocery shop in Sirajganj's Tarash Upazila.

The incident took place at Khalkula Bazar along the Natore-Bonpara Highway on Saturday morning, Tarash Police Station Inspector (Investigation) Nazmul Kader said.

The detainees have been identified as Aminul Islam, 25, Abdullah Al Noman, 25, and Reza Rabbani Habib, 24.

"We settled the matter through discussions with both parties. The three coordinators were released on Saturday afternoon after signing a bond," said Inspector Nazmul.

He added, "They were also fined Tk 7,000 as compensation for the damage.

"Senior police officials were present at the arbitration meeting along with members from both sides."

Ali Ashraf, owner of Asha Hotel and Restaurant, told journalists that on Friday afternoon, three buses carrying students and supporters of a newly formed political party stopped outside his hotel while travelling to Dhaka for the party's launch event.

"There was an argument between the students and the shop staff over buying a cake, but the matter was resolved immediately."

The owner continued, "On their way back from Dhaka on Saturday morning, some students, identifying themselves as coordinators, stormed into the hotel and started vandalising it.

"When we tried to stop them, they beat me and my staff."

"Hearing our screams, locals rushed in and caught three of them while the others fled. The locals then beat them up before handing them over to police, "he concluded.
