Bangladesh reported 43 more deaths from Covid-19 and 1,383 new virus cases during the last 24 hours until 8:00 am on Sunday.
The figures were comparatively higher than the previous day's counts of 35 and 1,190 respectively, according to the Directorate General of Health Services (DGHS).
With the latest daily counts, the total fatalities from Covid-19 reached 27,225, since the virus was detected in the country in March 2020.
A total of 24,623 samples were tested, including antigen tests, during the last 24-hour reporting time, while 24,128 samples were collected during the period.
The Covid-19 test positivity rate inched down further to 5.62 per cent from the previous day's 6.05 per cent.
On the other hand, a total of 1,645 people recovered from the coronavirus infection in the country during the last 24 hours. The rate of recovery was 97.23 per cent on the day, said the DGHS in its press release.
The rate of fatalities from coronavirus remained static at 1.76 per cent.
According to the official data, the total Covid-19 cases stood at nearly 1.54 million in Bangladesh, and of them, more than 1.50 million recovered from the deadly disease.
Meanwhile, nearly 9.43 million samples were tested in the country until Sunday since March last year.
UNB adds, the number of Covid-19 cases in Bangladesh continues to fall, said the DGHS on Sunday.
DGHS spokesperson Prof. Dr. Mohammad Nazmul Islam revealed the information at a virtual press briefing after reviewing the infection situation of the last 30 days.
"In the past seven days, 12,758 people tested positive for Covid-19, the figure is 3,758 less than the previous seven days," he said.
"Besides, the death rate also dropped in the last seven days. The case positivity rate was 7.0 per cent in the first two days of the last week, and then it dropped to 6.0 per cent or a little bit more."
According to a report, from January to September, some 11,077 people got infected in February, and a total of 40,682 people tested positive in September.
The highest number of Covid patients was in July with 3,36,226 , he noted.
Among the top-ten districts with high infection rate, a total of 5,13,942 patients were detected in Dhaka district, while 22,629 in Noakhali.
"We have not got any directives to resume mass vaccination campaign across the country, and if there is any decision we'll let people know."
Regarding the vaccination of children between 12-17 years, the DGHS spokesperson said the Ministry of Health would take the decision as per the suggestion of the National Technical Advisory Committee.
