Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina on Wednesday encouraged implementation of the Public Private Partnership (PPP) projects on the basis of the government-to-government (G2G) partnership with different countries, reports UNB.

She also gave directives to the authorities concerned to undertake such more projects.

The directives came at the second meeting of the Board of Governors of PPP authority, held at the Prime Minister's Office (PMO) with Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina in the chair.

The Prime Minister said it will have to set example of success stories by implementing the project through PPP, said the PM's Press Wing sources after the meeting.

At the meeting, it said a total of 48 projects were undertaken to implement on the PPP policy.

Of the projects, agreements were signed with private partners to implement 10 projects, while agreements will be signed with private partners soon to implement two other projects.

If the 48 PPP projects are implemented, the amount of investment will stand at some US$ 12.6 billion.

Finance Minister Abul Maal Abdul Muhith, Railways Minister Mazibul Hoque, Posts, Telecommunications and Information Technology Minister Mustafa Jabbar, Textiles and Jute Minister Emaz Uddin Pramanik, Principal Secretary Nojibur Rahman, Chief Coordinator (SDG Affairs) at the Prime Minister's Office Abul Kalam Azad, the CEO of the PPP authority, secretaries concerned were present at the meeting.

The PPP Authority in June 2017 took a 'Policy for Implementing PPP Projects through Government to Government (G2G) Partnership, 2017' (the G2G Partnership Policy) to build on strong bi-lateral relationships with other governments to develop and upgrade large public infrastructure assets in partnership with other countries and deliver essential public services.

Following the policy, Bangladesh signed agreements with Japan in June 2017 and Singapore in March 2018 over implementation of the PPP projects through G2G partnership.
