5 vehicles’ collision on Mawa expressway hurts 20

Five people were killed in a collision between two vehicles on the Dhaka-Chattogram Highway on Monday while on the same day another accident involving five vehicles on the Dhaka-Mawa Expressway left 20 injured, reports UNB.

In Feni 5 people were killed and 10 others injured in a collision between a pickup van and a covered van in Feni on Monday night.

Mohipal Highway Model Police Station Harunur Rashid said the accident occurred in Hafezia madrasha area around 7pm, leaving five people dead on the spot and 10 others injured.

A highway police officer said some 14 to 15 construction workers boarding the pickup van were going to Dhaka from Chattogram.

The speeding covered van crashed into the pickup van from the opposite direction, resulting in the casualties, he said.

The injured were taken to Feni Sadar Hospital, he said.

In Munshiganj at least 20 people were injured in an accident involving five vehicles on Dhaka-Mawa Expressway near Kamarkhola area in Munshiganj on Monday morning, fire service said.

The identities of the injured could not be known immediately.

The accident occurred around 7 am when a large covered van collided with the back of a pickup truck.

Shortly afterwards, a passenger bus from Imat Pariban crashed into the van, causing a slowdown. A short distance away, another truck hit a bus from Purbaba Paribahan, leaving at least 20 people injured.

On information, two fire service units rushed to the scene, rescued the injured, and transported them to hospital, according to Munshiganj Fire Service Deputy Assistant Director Shafiqul Islam.

He also said that traffic movement on the Dhaka-bound lane was disrupted, leading to a traffic jam due to the crashes.

Abdul Quader Jilani, officer-in-charge of Hasara Highway Police, said that the truck involved in the crash fled the scene, and efforts are ongoing to clear the remaining four vehicles.
