6 die of dengue, record 926 new patients

Six more people have died from dengue, while 926 additional patients - the highest number for a single day - have been hospitalised with the Aedes mosquito-borne disease across the country in the past 24 hours until Sunday morning.

The Directorate General of Health Services, or DGHS, said as many as 245 were hospitalised in Dhaka among the new dengue patients until Sunday morning, reports bdnews24.com.

In addition, 65 were hospitalised in the Barishal Division, 151 in the Chattogram Division, 196 in the Dhaka Division, 101 in the Khulna Division, 18 in the Mymensingh Division, 46 in the Rajshahi Division, and 33 in the Rangpur Division.

With the new counts, the number of hospitalised dengue patients has reached 24,034 this year. A total of 131 people died among them.

The DGHS has been keeping records of dengue hospitalisations and deaths since 2000.

Since then, a record 321,179 dengue hospitalisations were logged in 2023. The highest 1,705 people also died of the disease that year.

BSS adds: Dhaka South City Corporation (DSCC) conducted special anti-mosquito drive in 7 wards to curb dengue alongside its regular activities. A team of DSCC comprising its health department and waste management department ran the drive in wards 12, 15, 31, 53, 55 and 57, said a DSCC press release on Sunday.

It said that in the drive, 13 workers participated in larviciding activities, while 13 workers in adulticiding activities and 210 cleaners from waste management department.

The breeding grounds of Aedes mosquitoes have been destroyed through special larvicidal and adulticidal activities around dengue patients' residences as per the list of DGHS provided September 21, added the release.
