The government has appointed new deputy commissioners (DCs) in six districts and made a reshuffle in the senior level of the police, report agencies.
The Public Administration Ministry issued separate notifications regarding DCs appointments on Monday.
The six districts are Patuakhali, Netrokona, Meherpur, Kushtia, Khulna, and Kurigram.
Mohammad Shaheed Hossain Chowdhury, deputy secretary of the Environment, Forest, and Climate Change Ministry, has been appointed as Patuakhali DC, Md Abdus Salam, deputy secretary of the Home Ministry, has been appointed as the DC of Meherpur, and Mohammad Abdullah Al Mahmud Zaman, zonal settlement officer (deputy secretary) of the Department of Land Record and Survey, has been appointed as the DC of Netrokona district.
Additionally, Deputy Commissioner of Patuakhali Abu Hasnat Mohammad Arefin has been transferred to Kushtia, Md Toufiqur Rahman, Deputy Commissioner of Kushtia, has been transferred to Khulna, and Sifat Mehnaz, Deputy Commissioner of Meherpur, has been transferred to Kurigram district.
Meanwhile, the government announced a reshuffle in the senior level of police officer postings, transferring 18 newly promoted additional inspectors general and supernumerary additional inspectors general.
The Home Ministry's Public Security Division stated in a press release that 12 newly promoted additional IGPs and six DIGs were transferred with new assignments, some with elevated ranks, with the order to be enforced immediately.
According to the notification, 12 additional IGPs currently in charge were recently promoted, while the rest were promoted as supernumerary additional IGPs and transferred to new positions.
Among the new additional IGPs, Md Golam Rasul was appointed as Special Branch (SB) chief, Md AKM Awlad Hossain, Md Akram Hossain Abu Naser Mohammad Khaled, Khandkar Rafiqul Islam, Mosleh Uddin Ahmad, and Sardar Nurul Amin were transferred to the police headquarters.
Other new additional IGPs were assigned to various positions, such as Hasib Aziz as Chattogram's police commissioner, Gazi Jashim Uddin as industrial police chief, Md Rezaul Karim as police anti-terrorism unit chief, Md Mostafa Kamal as police bureau of investigation (PBI) chief, Md Sibgat Ullah as criminal investigation department (CID) chief, and Md Ali Hossain Fakir as armed police battalion (APBn) chief.
The remaining officers were appointed as deputy inspectors general (DIG) with supernumerary additional IGPs, including GZ Azizur Rahman in SB, Md Sarwar in DMP as additional police commissioner, Md Fazlul Karim at police headquarters, Rezaul Karim at police telecom, and Md Ahsan Habib Palash at the police's Chattogram Range.
The government has also transferred 11 Deputy Inspectors General (DIGs) of Police to new stations.
The Public Security Division of the Home Ministry has issued a gazette notification signed by Deputy Secretary Md Mahbubur Rahman in this regard Monday.
According to the notification Md Zillur Rahman, additional director general (DIG) of Rapid Action Battalion (RAB) was transferred to Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP) as its additional commissioner, Faruk Ahmed, additional commissioner (DIG) of DMP to RAB as additional director general, Md Shafiqul Islam, DIG of Highway police to DMP as additional director general, Barrister Md Zillur Rahman, DIG of Bangladesh Police Academy Sarda, Rajshahi, to Railway Police as DIG, Md Mahbubur Rahman Bhuiyan, DIG of Railway Police to Police Training Centre (PTC), Khulna, as commandant (DIG), Md Abul Khair, DIG of Armed Police Battalion (APBn), Dhaka to Traffic and Driving School (TDS), Dhaka as Commandant (DIG), Sheikh Mohammad Rezaul Haider, DIG of Railway Police to PTC, Rangpur as Commandant (DIG), Abdul Quddus Chowdhury, Commandant (DIG) of PTC, Khulna to Sylhet Metropoltan Police as Commissioner, Shamima Begum, DIG of Special Branch (SB) to Bangladesh Police Academy Sarda, Rajshahi, as DIG, Md Sayedur Rahman, DIG of Police Bureau of Investigation (PBI) to Central Police Hospital, Rajarbagh as its director and Md Abul Kalam Azad, DIG of Highway Police, Dhaka to PBI as DIG.
It said the order issued on public interest will be effective immediately.
