Chandur, Mar 9 (UNB): Six members of a family including three women were burnt in a fire following a blast apparently from gas line leakage in a flat at Shah Bari in Chandpur Sadar upazila early Sunday.

The injured are Abdur Rahman, his mother Khadija, wife Shanu, younger son Mahin, elder son Imam Hossain, and his wife Nusrat Niba.

Of them, Rahman and Nusrat are undergoing treatment at Chandpur Sadar Hospital and the rest at the National Institute of Burn and Plastic Surgery in Dhaka as they sustained over 60 percent burn injuries.

Victims' neighbours Kulsum Begum and her son Jihan said the gas leakage from the pipeline caused an explosion when they were lighting the stove for preparing Sehri, leaving them burnt.

House owner Zakir Hossain said the injured victims were taken to the 250-bed General Hospital immediately.

Dr. Hasan Faisal Hossain, a physician at the emergency department of the hospital, said four critically injured victims were referred to Dhaka as their condition was critical.

A team from Chandpur Fire Service and Civil Defense went to the scene to investigate the cause of the fire.
