The Department of Environment seized 746kg polythene bags and disconnected utility lines of factories on Sunday, the first day of the countrywide drives against illegal polythene manufacturers.
During a raid in the capital's Kamrangirchar area, utility connections, including gas, electricity, and water, of a factory were disconnected.
Thirteen mobile courts carried out drives nationwide, targeting illegal storage and marketing of the banned polythene. A total of Tk180,500 in fines was imposed on 26 businesses, according to the department.
Earlier, Environment, Forest and Climate Change Adviser Syeda Rizwana Hasan had announced the government's strong stance to enforce the polythene bag ban with strict monitoring from November.
On the other hand, at a meeting with environmental organisations at the Bangladesh Secretariat, she announced that actions would also be taken soon against illegal battery-breaking and lead-smelting factories.
She emphasised that the government was taking progressive steps to curb all forms of pollution to protect nature.
