783 down with dengue afresh

FE Report | September 04, 2019 00:00:00

As many as 783 people were infected afresh with dengue on Tuesday, showing signs of improvement in fighting the viral disease.

The number of new patients has been recorded in the last 24 hours until 8:00 am on the day.

Until Sunday, the Institute of Epidemiology, Disease Control and Research received a record of 188 deaths suspected to be caused by dengue.

After examining 96 death cases among the total number, it confirmed 57 deaths from dengue, according to the Directorate General of Health Services (DGHS).

On the other hand, the local media reported much more fatalities than the government data.

For now, some 3,746 people are being treated for dengue-2111 in Dhaka and 1,635 across the country.

A total of 72,745 patients were hospitalised since January 01. Of them, 68,811 were discharged from hospitals after recovery.

DGHS data showed dengue infections started to decrease in September, but August broke all previous records of infections in a single month, affecting 52,636 people.

Earlier, the government agencies concerned took extra measures like awareness building as people in and out of Dhaka city were rushing to different city hospitals.

The World Health Organisation said of no specific treatment for dengue, but early detection and proper medication can lower fatality rate below 1.0 per cent.

Besides, cleanness and awareness are essential prerequisites to fight this Aedes-borne disease.
