The Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC) chairman Iqbal Mahmood on Thursday said the quality of investigations being carried out by the commission should reach certain level so that punishment can be ensured to all genuine criminals.
The detective branch of the anti-graft watchdog will not only spy on the corrupt people but also the officials of the commission to bring transparency in their activities through using the tools of information technology, he said at a review meeting held at the ACC headquarters in the city's Segunbagicha.
The director general, director and deputy director level officials from the commission's integrated district offices, divisional offices and head office were present.
Guiding the ACC officials towards improving the quality of investigations, Mr Mahmood said criminal offences of every accused should be scrutinised thoroughly and it should be kept in mind that the commission don't support harassing anyone.
Stressing the completion of investigation into a case within a stipulated time, he said a copy of the case statement should be enclosed with the documents during submission of final investigation report on a case.
He also asked the ACC officials to follow a uniform format to carry out an investigation and prepare the investigation report.
The ACC boss also said officials concerned have to send the copy of a case statement to the legal department of the commission right after filing it so that the ACC can monitor the procedure and take further steps regarding the case.
Sounding a warning against the ACC officials, he said the detective branch of the commission will collect information about its own people apart from spying on corrupt people.
The commission will use tools of information technology to spy on its officials, he added.
He also urged the ACC officials to work together to brighten the image of the commission so that people can gain confidence in the state organ.
ACC commissioners Dr Nasiruddin Ahmed and AFM Aminul Islam, ACC secretary Dr Md Shamsul Arefin, director general (DG-Legal) Md Moyeedul Islam, DG (administration) Muhammad Munir Chowdhury, DG (investigation) Mustafizur Rahman, DG (money laundering) Atiqur Rahman Khan, DG (special investigation) Muhammad Joynul Bari, among others, were present at the meeting.
