ACC seizes jeep from govt official

FE Report | February 19, 2019 00:00:00

The Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC) on Monday seized a luxurious jeep of a project from a public official, who has been using the vehicle even after expiry of the scheme.

Based on a complaint, an ACC team, under the directive of its director general (administration) Md Munir Chowdhury, conducted the drive.

The team recovered the Prado jeep from the possession of Dr Mahbubul Haque, who is an assistant director of the Department of Livestock Services (DLS).

ACC spokesperson Pranab Kumar Bhattacharjee said Dr Haque started using the jeep (Dhaka Metro-Gha-113558) after being assigned as the project director (PD) of Duck Reproduction Project under DLS.

The project expired in July 2018, but he has been illegally using the jeep for the last eight months. The ex-PD also spent Tk 50,000 a month for paying salary and overtime bill of its driver, he added.

ACC later handed over the vehicle to DLS.

Md Munir Chowdhury said the DLS official has been using the vehicle through misusing his power, which is against institutional governance.

"ACC is the anti-graft body that also works for establishing institutional governance," he noted.
