An accord between a Bangladeshi and an Oman-based technology firms is likely to open avenues for tech jobs in the gulf country for skilled talents, besides promoting cooperation in other economic fields.
Bangladeshi software-firm Brain Station 23 signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with Star Drones, an Oman-based technology company, to collaborate on drone technology, software engineering, and robotics.
The MoU was signed in Dhaka on Thursday, in presence of business leaders and company executives.
MJ Ferdous, Director at Brain Station 23, and Said Abdul Ghafoor Saif Udeen, Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of Star Drones, headquartered at Innovation Park Muscat in Seeb, Oman, inked the deal.
Under the MoU, Brain Station 23 will provide high-skilled engineering talent to support Star Drones' software development for agricultural and industrial applications.
The technical support will primarily be delivered remotely by Bangladeshi engineers, with provisions for on-site deployment in Oman as needed.
Speaking at the ceremony, Ashraful Haq Chowdhury, president, Saudi Arabia-Bangladesh Chamber of Commerce and Industry (SABCCI), said Bangladesh is keen to deepen its trade, investment, and manpower collaboration with Oman in line with Oman's 'Vision 2040' development agenda.
Chowdhury highlighted the deep economic ties between the two nations, pointing out that around 1.0 million Bangladeshi nationals are currently employed in Oman.
"We want to expand our skilled human resources to support Oman's ongoing infrastructure and economic development," Chowdhury said.
"At the same time, we want to see bilateral trade and investment relationships between Oman and Bangladesh grow day by day."
He points out that the Omani government's Vision 2040 framework presents significant opportunities for Bangladeshi firms and skilled workers to participate in major infrastructure and development projects across the Sultanate.
The delegation, led by Omani business leader Said, spent five "very busy days exploring potential areas of collaboration and investment in Bangladesh", Chowdhury added, expressing optimism about future joint ventures between the private sectors of both countries.
Star Drones hopes to offer hardware and software solutions as a cost-effective alternative to Chinese models, opening potential opportunities for technology imports to Bangladesh and broader regional exports.
Addressing the function, Abdul Ghafoor Saif Udeen underscored the importance of gradually strengthening bilateral cooperation through people-to-people exchanges, trade, and knowledge sharing.
He said initial collaboration in areas such as human resources, agriculture, and professional expertise could help build a stronger foundation for long-term economic ties.
Udeen also stressed the potential to expand cooperation into technology-driven sectors, including artificial intelligence, drone technology, and software development.
"Leveraging the strengths of both countries could create new opportunities for innovation, investment, and sustainable economic growth," he said.
Bassim Allah Bakhsh Ghulam Al-Zadjali, Chief Technology Officer (CTO), Star Drones, Innovation Park Muscat, Seeb, Sultanate of Oman, also was present at the event.
