All airports on alert over fear of cyberattacks

FE REPORT | October 11, 2025 00:00:00

The Civil Aviation Authority of Bangladesh (CAAB) fears cyberattacks on all the airports in the country, following recent cyber attacks on some important European airports.

The organisation has already issued a 10-point directive to avert any possible cyberattacks at the country's airports and to ensure uninterrupted air travel.

In its instructions issued last week, the CAAB said that cyberattacks have recently been observed to happen at several airports around the world.

"To ensure uninterrupted air transport operations in Bangladesh, all concerned are requested to remain alert," the regulatory authority said.

In the directives, the CAAB asked the airports' authorities to use strong passwords, avoiding the reuse of passwords across different platforms, and changing passwords regularly.

It also asked to refrain from clicking on unfamiliar or suspicious emails, links, or attachments (including on platforms such as WhatsApp and Messenger); keeping software, security patches, and antivirus programmes up to date; not using pirated or cracked software; not installing personal software or apps on official devices; enabling Multi-Factor Authentication (MFA); using CAAB's official email address (with the domain caab.gov.bd) for all official communications.

The CAAB also directed keeping regular backups of important data and information; and scanning pen drives before use.

The organisation also directed that any emerging cyber security issues must be immediately reported to the CAAB-CIRT Team, its IT Division, and the National Cyber Incident Response Team.

The CAAB issued the instructions following a recent cyber attack on a provider of check-in and boarding systems that disrupted operations at several major European airports, including London's Heathrow, the continent's busiest, causing flight delays and cancellations.

Brussels Airport and Berlin Airport also confirmed disruptions, while Dublin Airport reported minor impacts along with Cork Airport, Ireland's second

busiest after Dublin.
