AmCham permanent office opens in city

The permanent office of the American Chamber of Commerce in Bangladesh (AmCham) was inaugurated in the city on Saturday.

While inaugurating the office, US Ambassador in Dhaka Robert Miller expressed his hope that the US companies would continue contributing to development of Bangladesh.

He said the US-Bangladesh trade rose to 8.2 billion dollars marking a huge growth over the years.

Urging the entrepreneurs to ensure work safety and dignity of workers, Miller expressed his hope that the 'Made in Bangladesh' brand would be treated as a symbol of quality and compliance.

Among others, International Chamber of Commerce Bangladesh (ICCB) President Mahbubur Rahman, Forest Cookson, founder of America Bangladesh Economic Forum and former AmCham President M Aftabul Islam also spoke on the occasion. It was moderated by incumbent AmCham President Md. Nurul Islam.

Mahbubur Rahman lauded the role of the AmCham saying it had contributed a lot to development of the private sector.

Aftabul Islam narrated the history of the chamber and said with the inauguration of the permanent office a long-cherished dream of the members was fulfilled.

Nurul Islam thanked those who contributed to the fund for arranging the office.
