Yet another person died of the Aedes-borne dengue viral fever in Dhaka city early Wednesday, taking the official death toll to 47.
The deceased was identified as Khadiza Akter, 27, a Gendaria resident and wife of Monir Hossain.
Sources said she was admitted to the Dhaka Medical College and Hospital on August 16.
According to the Directorate General of Health Services (DGHS), 1,626 dengue patients were admitted to different hospitals across the country in the past 24 hours till 8:00 am on Wednesday.
Of the new patients, 711 tested positive for dengue in Dhaka city and 915 outside the capital.
In the past two days, 3,167 were newly diagnosed patients-1,552 on Tuesday and 1,615 on Monday.
As per the DGHS health emergency operation centre and control room, 57,995 people were admitted to hospitals with dengue infections since January 2019.
Of them, 47 patients died of dengue fever.
However, according to media reports and unofficial tally, dengue deaths may be double the government data as DGHS only collects information from 41 hospitals-11 public and 30 private.
Currently, some 6,278 people are undergoing treatment at different hospitals-3,360 are in Dhaka and the remaining 2,918 in other districts.
The DGHS data also showed about 51,670 people have returned home from hospitals after treatment.
The number of the hospitalised dengue patients has decreased slightly by 2.0 per cent in Dhaka and 5.0 per cent outside the capital.
As of August 21, DGHS said, a total of 39,534 people were admitted to hospitals with dengue while the number was 16,253 in July and 1,884 in June.
