The Bangladesh Bank (BB) has sought from the land ministry a list of the immovable property owned by the Beximco Group
companies.
The central bank has also instructed all banks and other financial institutions not to sell or transfer mortgaged property against loans received by the Beximco Group until further instruction.
The BB has also asked all the banks to submit the details of Beximco Group's loans and directors of its companies.
It also asked for information from its Credit Information Bureau (CIB) about Beximco Group companies and their directors.
Meanwhile, the ministry has already taken steps in this regard and 51 banks have submitted the update.
The BB has also sought a list of the companies owned by Beximco Group and their directors from the Bangladesh Securities and Exchange Commission (BSEC) and Registrar of Joint Stock Companies and Firms (RJSC).
BB lawyer Barrister Munirujjaman placed the information before the Appellate Division of the Supreme Court during the hearing of an appeal petition on Monday.
Beximco Pharmaceuticals Limited, one of the companies of the group, filed the civil (appeal) petition before the apex court challenging the legality of a High Court (HC) order that on September 5 this year asked the BB to appoint a receiver to manage all the companies of Beximco Group and attach all of their properties for a period of six months.
Upon hearing on the appeal petition, a three-member bench of the Appellate Division, headed by Justice Md Ashfaqul Islam, fixed Tuesday (November 12) for passing an order on the issue.
The BB lawyer also informed the apex court that it already appointed a receiver to take care of the Beximco Group companies complying with the HC order.
Following a writ petition, the HC bench of Justice AKM Asaduzzaman and Justice Muhammad Mahbub Ul Islam on September 5 this year directed the BB to appoint a receiver to manage the affairs of all the companies of Beximco Group and attach all of their properties for a period of six months.
It also directed the BB authorities to recover the money obtained by Salman F Rahman, former adviser to Sheikh Hasina, from different banks and bring the money back to Bangladesh from abroad.
The BB authorities had been asked to submit a compliance report to the court within four weeks about the steps they will take regarding the issue.
Appearing in the hearing for Beximco Pharmaceuticals Barrister Mustafizur Rahman Khan said the HC order was not proper as it gave full relief to the petitioner without hearing the defendant.
Masood R Sobhan, a Supreme Court lawyer, filed the writ petition as a public interest litigation.
