Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina Wednesday said Bangladesh wants peaceful solution to the Rohingya crisis by maintaining good relations with Myanmar.

"We want a durable and fair solution to the Rohingya problem by maintaining friendly and good relations with Myanmar," she said in reply to starred question from treasury bench member Md Ayenuddin (Rajshahi-3), reports BSS.

The Leader of the House said the present government has taken multilateral diplomatic initiatives to put international pressure on the Myanmar government.

As a result, she said, different international organisations including the UN have expressed their concern over the Myanmar army's atrocities on the Rohingyas. They are also continuing pressure on the Myanmar government for repatriation of the Rohingyas, she said.

The Prime Minister said that following the army atrocities on the Rohingyas, nearly 0.69 million forcibly displaced Rohingya people took shelter in Bnagladesh since August 25 in 2017.

Earlier, around 87,000 Rohingyas took shelter in Bangladesh after becoming victims of atrocities following the military operation in Rakhaine state after October 9 in 2016.

Pointing out the killing, torture and unbridled corruption harboured by the BNP during its misrule, the prime minister said everybody is bearing the brunt of their misdeeds. She said money came from abroad in the name of the Zia Orphanage Trust 27 years ago.
