Barishal's BPL victory celebration ends in chaos; 10 injured

A victory celebration for Fortune Barishal's second consecutive Bangladesh Premier League (BPL) title ended in chaos on Sunday, reports UNB.

Gross mismanagement and inadequate security arrangements in the divisional headquarters ruined what was supposed to have been a celebration with the people of Barishal. At least 10 people were injured.

The event held at Bells Park in the city, was meant to celebrate Fortune Barishal's triumph over Chattogram in  the BPL final in Dhaka on Friday night.

The championship trophy arrived in Barishal on Sunday afternoon, accompanied by the team members. Thousands of fans gathered at the venue to witness the players and the trophy presentation, followed by a scheduled music concert.

However, the celebration quickly turned unruly as an overwhelming crowd breached the weak security barriers and surged towards the stage when the team and owner Mizanur Rahman appeared at around 3:45pm.

Sensing the growing tension, the players and officials swiftly exited the stage with the trophy and moved to a secure location.

During the commotion, shoes and chairs were hurled at the stage, and the event was brought to an abrupt halt.
