BB gets two new deputy governors

FE REPORT | November 23, 2020 00:00:00

The government has appointed two deputy governors (DGs) for the central bank after more than nine months of publishing an advertisement.

The newly appointed deputy governors are Kazi Sayedur Rahman, executive director of the Bangladesh Bank (BB) and AKM Sajedur Rahman Khan, managing director of Rajshahi Krishi Unnayan Bank (RAKUB), according to two notifications issued by the Financial Institutions Division (FID) of the Ministry of Finance separately on Sunday.

The contractual appointments will remain valid until they reach the age of 62 years.

Sayedur Rahman will turn 62 on January 01, 2025 and Sajedur Rahman Khan on February 01, 2024, according to the notifications.

Meanwhile, Sayedur Rahman has already joined the central bank as deputy governor after completing official formalities, a BB senior official told the FE.

With the new appointments, the number of deputy governors at the central bank is now four.

After the reserve heist in 2016, two deputy governors were removed and since then the central bank has never had the four posts occupied concurrently.

Earlier on February 20 this year, the government sought applications for employing two more deputy governors for the organisation.

Bangladesh Bank had three permanent posts of deputy governors, which was increased to four last year. The fourth post was added on the condition that one deputy governor will be appointed from a scheduled bank.
