BD China’s ‘important partner’ in ‘Belt and Road Initiative’

China attaches great importance to Bangladesh and considers it as a very important friend, especially in the former's flagship development agenda.

Such assertion came from newly appointed Chinese Ambassador to Bangladesh Zhang Zuo Monday after a meeting at Bangladesh's foreign ministry.

"Bangladesh is an important country in South Asia and a very important neighbour to China as well as an important partner in the Belt and Road Initiative," he said while talking to newsmen after his meeting with State Minister for Foreign Affairs Shahriar Alam.

"Bangladesh is a very important friend of China and we attach great importance to Bangladesh," the diplomat further said, making a mention of a foundation laid recently for bilateral development cooperation.

Terming the visit of President Xi Jinping to Bangladesh in November 2016 an historic event, he said many important agreements and development plans were signed during the tour.

The new Chinese envoy, who arrived in Dhaka on February 12, said he would try his "best to help implement all those agreements and development plans and bring some tangible results as soon as possible".

Ambassador Zhang also assured that he would work to promote further the inclusive and comprehensive bilateral partnership between the two countries.
