BD deaths, cases rise further

Both the numbers of infections and fatalities from Covid-19 rose further considerably on Wednesday, according to official data.
The number of deaths increased to 24 during the last 24-hour reporting time on Wednesday from that of 18 on the previous day, said a press release of the Directorate General of Health Services (DGHS).
On the other hand, the number of people freshly diagnosed with the virus also rose to 1,545 compared to 1,380 on Tuesday, it said.
With the latest figures, the number of total casualties reached 5,723 since the virus was first reported in Bangladesh in March last.
Some 14,086 samples were tested during the last 24 hours while a total of 14,091 samples were collected across the country during the last reporting period.
However, the rates of both fatalities and detection from the disease remained almost static at 1.46 per cent and 10.97 per cent respectively on the day, according to the DGHS press release.
A total of 1,704 people recovered from the Covid-19 during the last 24 hours, it mentioned.
However, the rate of recovery from the disease was recorded at 78.56 per cent, it mentioned.
According to the official data, a total of 393,131 people have so far been infected with Covid-19 in Bangladesh and out of them 308,845 had recovered from the deadly disease.
