Bangladesh has been ranked at 102nd among 113 countries in an indicator that measures how the rule of law is experienced and perceived by people in general across the world, reports www.worldjusticeproject.org.
The indicator, published on Wednesday, titled 'World Justice Project (WJP) Rule of Law Index 2017-2018' shows that the country has improved one step in the overall rule of law performance.
The top three overall performers in the index are Denmark (1), Norway (2), and Finland (3) with the bottom three being Afghanistan (111), Cambodia (112) and Venezuela (113).
Among South Asian nations, Bangladesh took fourth position out of six including Afghanistan, Bangladesh, India, Nepal, Pakistan and Sri Lanka.
Bangladesh was, however, found to be the 24th out of 30 lower middle income countries.
South Asia's top performer in the Index is Nepal which has risen five positions to 58th out of 113 countries worldwide.
With the exception of Afghanistan, which stayed at the staggering 111th, all the countries in this region improved in the index.
Albeit dramatically, Sri Lanka improved the most -- thereby moving up nine positions to 59th out of all the indexed countries.
The WJP Index is the world's leading source for original data on the rule of law.
The Index relies on more than 110,000 household and 3,000 expert surveys to measure how the rule of law is experienced and perceived in practical, everyday situations by the common masses.
Performance is measured using 44 indicators across eight primary rule of law factors, each of which is scored and ranked globally and against regional and income peers: Constraints on Government Powers, Absence of Corruption, Open Government, Fundamental Rights, Order and Security, Regulatory Enforcement, Civil Justice, and Criminal Justice.
