FE REPORT | January 09, 2025 00:00:00

Bangladeshi passport has been identified as the seventh weakest one for 2025, according to a latest global report.

The South Asian nation shares 100th position with Libya and the Palestinian Territories, whose citizens can get visa-free access to 40 travel destinations across the world.

The global report listed all the world's 199 passports in line with the number of travel destinations their owners can access free of visa.

In the 2024 edition of the report, Bangladesh shared 97th position with North Korea, whose passport was the eighth weakest having visa-free access to 42 destinations.

A London-based investment migration consultancy, Henley & Partners, published the report styled 'Henley Passport Index 2025 Global Ranking' on Wednesday.

According to the index (https://www.henleyglobal.com/passport-index/ranking), Bangladesh is followed by Nepal, Somalia, Pakistan, Yemen, Iraq, Syria and Afghanistan, which ranked between 101st and 106th positions.

Singapore tops the list of all countries with its passport-holders getting visa-free access to 195 destinations. The East Asian country is followed by another regional peer-Japan-whose citizens can 193 destinations without prior visa.

"Singapore reclaims its crown as the most powerful passport in the world with visa-free access to 195 out of 227 destinations worldwide," cites the report.

"It leaves Japan in the runner-up spot with a score of 193 but still ahead of the rest after it regained visa-free access to neighbouring China for the first time since Covid lockdowns."

Finland, France, Germany, Italy, South Korea and Spain share the third position as their visa-free score is 192.

According to the report, the rest of the index's top 10 are largely dominated by European countries, except for Australia, Canada, the US and the United Arab Emirates (UAE).

The UAE is the first and only Arab state to ever make it into the upper echelons of the rankings.

"The UAE is one of the biggest climbers on the index over the past decade, having secured access to an additional 72 destinations since 2015, enabling it to climb 32 places to 10th spot with visa-free access to 185 destinations worldwide."
