BGB seize 32 gold bars worth Tk 12m

BENAPOLE, Aug 7 (UNB): Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB) seized 32 gold bars weighing 2.8 Kgs from Durgapur area of Benapole border on Wednesday.
BGB could not however detain the gold smugglers.
According to Md Selim Reza, Commander of 49 BGB Battalion Jashore, an intelligence squad of the battalion led by Nayeb Subeder M Abdul Malek, conducted the drive at Durgapur.
Sensing the presence of the border guards a suspected motorcycle rider fled the scene leaving his motorbike.
Later, the BGB men found 2.8 KGs of gold (32 gold bars) worth Tk 12.32 million 23 lac 20 thousand hidden inside the silencer pipe of the abandoned motorcycle.
Process is on to take legal measures regarding the seized gold bars. A case was lodged with Benapole police station in this connection.
It may be mentioned that prior to this, a total of six accused have been detained along with almost a dozen kilograms (11.4 KGs) of gold in various anti-smuggling drives in the Jashore border areas till now since March, 2019.
