Bangladesh Garment Manufacturers and Exporters Association (BGMEA), the apex body for the apparel sector, on Tuesday sought continued support from the Bangladesh Army and members of the law-enforcement agencies to maintain law and order and thus ensure stability in all industries, including the garment sector.
The request was made at a view-exchange meeting chaired by BGMEA Administrator Md Anwar Hossain at the BGMEA complex in the city's Uttara area.
Representatives from the BGMEA, the Bangladesh Army, Industrial Police, Department of Factory Inspection, DCs of Dhaka, Gazipur, and Narayanganj districts, along with representatives from the garment factories, were present at the meeting.
The joint forces led by Major General Md Moin Khan, GOC of the 9th Infantry Division and additional IGP of Industrial Police Md Sibgat Ullah, along with members of the BGMEA Support Committee were also present.
Mr Hossain praised the patience and prudence demonstrated by the Bangladesh Army and various law enforcement agencies in maintaining law and order across the country's industrial zones, including in Gazipur.
Factory representatives shared their views on maintaining security and emphasised the importance of resolving any disputes by holding dialogues between factory owners and workers. Participants agreed to remain vigilant about preventing any labour unrest.
The Bangladesh Army assured that it is committed to maintaining a secure environment in the industrial areas and urged factories to file cases against criminals identified through CCTV footage.
