Biman Bangladesh Airlines is going to take lease of two aircraft to operate its Hajj flights next year as its decision to buy new aircraft will take time to finalise.
Officials said the decision to take the lease was taken this year as the national carrier's existing 21 aircrafts are inadequate to operate as the volume of the flights and frequency have increased in recent times.
Biman also operates two leased planes, and their lease tenure is expected to expire soon, according to the officials.
Negotiation is also being held to continue the lease from existing vendor as the Biman's need for aircraft will keep growing in the coming years, said an official preferring anonymity.
Biman already called a request for proposal for the dry lease of Boeing 737-800 for six years on September 30 as its earlier plan to buy new aircraft has been halted after the change of the new government.
The national flag carrier earlier took a move to buy 10 aircraft before the last national election.
The Biman Hajj flights is expected to start end of April.
