Bodies of 17 Nepal plane crash victims arrive today

The bodies of the US-Bangla plane crash victims will be brought back home today (Monday) as identification of 17 of those has been completed, report agencies.

A cargo plane of Bangladesh Air Force, carrying the bodies, is scheduled to land at Shahjalal International Airport around 3:00pm, said US-Bangla Airline's GM (Marketing Support and PR) Kamrul Islam.

"Already 17 bodies have been identified. We are expecting that 5/6 more bodies would be identified by tomorrow (Monday)," he said.

Besides, another survivor Md Shahin Bepari arrived in Dhaka at 3pm by a flight of Biman Bangladesh Airlines.

At least 51 people, including 26 Bangladeshi nationals, were killed as the US-Bangla Airlines aircraft crashed and burst into flames at Tribhuvan International Airport in Nepal on Monday last.

Meanwhile, Afsana Khanam, the widow of Abid Sultan, who piloted the US-Bangla flight that crashed in Kathmandu, has been hospitalised with a stroke.

She was admitted to Dhaka's Sher-e-Bangla Nagar's National Institute of Neuroscience and Hospital on Sunday morning.

Md Shihab Uddin, who works at the hospital's information desk, said Afsana suffered a stroke.

"A surgery was conducted following a decision by the medical board after her admission. She is currently in the intensive care unit (ICU)."

Hospital Joint Director Prof Dr Badrul Alam is in charge of Afsana's treatment, said Shihab Uddin.
