BREB public hearing for installation of CC camera

FE Report | July 03, 2018 00:00:00

A public hearing to curb corruption in rural electrification system was held recently at Narayanganj Rural Electrification Samity 2 office, according to a statement.

Though the level of corruption has declined to a great extent, the BREB's reputation has been tarnished due to corrupt practices perpetrated by a section of brokers, participants opined.

They recommended for using the closed circuit camera footage to identify the real culprits.

The taskforce formed by Bangladesh Rural Electrification Board (BREB) organised the hearing mainly to find out the reasons and identify the persons involved with corruption.

The taskforce coordinator and member of BREB Md Yakub Ali Patwary, executive director Dahidul Islam, chief engineer (project) Md Jalal Uddin Mia, among others, were present in the public hearing.

Mr Patwary sought written and verbal opinions from participants to find out the reasons for corruption, the involved ones and the way out to make the BREB a corruption-free entity.

Mr Islam said the number of BREB clients rose to 23 million due to the expansion of BREB's activities.

He, however, sought assistance from the common people to curb corruption.
