Mohammad Ali Khokon has resigned from the post of president of the Bangladesh Textile Mills Association (BTMA) on personal grounds.
Amber Group chairman Shawkat Aziz Russell, also former vice-president of the BTMA, has replaced Khokon.
The BTMA board of directors accepted Khokon's resignation letter in an emergency meeting at its Gulshan office on Sunday.
However, Mr Khokon, who was made BTMA president in 2018, did not attend the meeting.
BTMA general secretary Brigadier General Md Zakir Hossain (Retd) confirmed the news to the FE.
"I've decided to resign as BTMA president," Khokon said in his resignation letter.
"This decision was not made lightly. As I've shared with some of you earlier that both my physical health and business have been suffering, which now needs my attention," it reads.
